報告題目：New Era of Mechanical Engineering – towards Digitalization
報告人：Professor Alan Kin Tak Lau(歐洲科學院院士、歐洲科學及藝術學院院士)
內容簡介：Since the 18th century, the manufacturing industry in China has gone through a dramatic change due to low investment costs, in terms of labour, rents and facilities with the back by large enterprises their base from other countries. However, with the success of new technology development and the protection of knowledge, different manufacturing models were arisen to support the effectiveness and efficiency of product design and manufacturing. CAD/CAE/CAM was firstly introduced followed by product design platform. Recently, rapid development of computer processing capability has driven the new era of digitalized manufacturing technology which highly relies on data to design, monitor, adjust and control the precision and safety in the production process. Industry 4.0 has been introduced few years ago to further advance this technology by linking stakeholders from different sectors to implement the design and manufacturing processes via cloud data sharing. This technology also draws the users’ attention on issues related to data security, intellectual property protection and ethics. This change also brings the core business of mechanical engineering turning to the development of new materials (from macro down to nano scale), automation, 3D printing and computational modelling and analysis. In this lecture, an in depth discussion on aforementioned items will be given.
